Electronic and electrical appliances

modeFRONTIER has been successfully applied to support the electronic and electrical industries in order to investigate and suggest how to increase product performance and quality. The optimisation of the design solutions was carried out to better satisfy customer expectations and reduce time to market.

  • Low - Cost Dual - Polarized Printed Antennas

Low - Cost Dual - Polarized Printed Antennas

Guido Valerio, Simona Mazzocchi, Alessandro Galli, Matteo Ciattaglia, Marco Zucca

Mar 2012 The development of ultra-wide-band (UWB) antennas is recently providing new solutions for the design of innovative, versatile, and economical radar and communication systems. A novel class of structures is proposed and optimized for the purpose of producing ultra-wide-band radiating elements for large arrays, providing dual polarization, beam scanning, and compact and inexpensive realization based on suitable rhombic arrangements of dipoles printed on low-cost layered substrates. read on Low - Cost Dual - Polarized Printed Antennas

    FERMI@Elettra MAGNETS

    D. Castronovo, R. Fabris, G. Loda, D. Zangrando (Elettra)

Oct 2011 FERMI@Elettra is a single-pass FEL user-facility located next to the third generation synchrotron radiation facility ELETTRA in Trieste, Italy. The linear accelerator contains more than 200 electromagnets. This paper reports on their design, construction, magnetic measurement and installation. read on FERMI@Elettra MAGNETS

  • Multi-objective design optimization for small power wind generation

Multi-objective design optimization for small power wind generation

Tessarolo, A., Luise, F., Raffin, P., Venuti, V. (University of Trieste, Italy)

Oct 2011 Efforts are being put, in particular, on the attempt to optimize the electric generation system between wind turbines and the grid. This paper reports on the development of a prototype slotless surface-permanent-magnet generator conceived for a 20 kW power station. The reasons which led to choose a slotless permanent-magnet generator topology are discussed along with the machine electromagnetic design optimization, carried out with stochastic algorithms. Finally, some preliminary test result on the prototype are reported. read on Multi-objective design optimization for small power wind generation

  • The case of a Piezoelectric

    The case of a Piezoelectric

Elhadj Benkhelifa, Mansour Moniri, Ashutosh Tiwari, Alfonso G. de Rueda - Staffordshire University, UK

Jul 2011 The design and optimisation of Energy Harvesting (EH) Micro-Electromechanical-Systems (MEMS) is of particular interest in this research. An evolutionary Multi-Objective Design Optimisation (DO) Framework is developed to experiment with one class of EH-MEMS, namely, Piezoelectric, using a reconstructed analytical model of the system. read on The case of a Piezoelectric

  • Modelling of a Magnetic Gear Considering Rotor Eccentricity

Modelling of a Magnetic Gear Considering Rotor Eccentricity

Leandro Alberto Percebon, Rodrigo Ferraz (ESSS, Brazil), Mauricio Valencia Ferreira da Luz (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil)

May 2011 This paper presents a new topology for high torque high performance permanent magnetic gear. The proposed topology is extensively studied thought series of simulations with ANSYS Maxwell, an electromagnetic solver based in finite element method. Parametric analysis provides a first geometry to be optimized, searching which variables are the most important to achieve high torque values and robustness for rotor eccentricities. read on Modelling of a Magnetic Gear Considering Rotor Eccentricity

  • A Symbolic-Numeric Approach to Multi-Objective Optimization

    A Symbolic-Numeric Approach to Multi-Objective Optimization

Hidenao Iwane, Hitoshi Yanami, Hirokazu Anai (Fujitsu Laboratories)

Apr 2011 New optimization methods for the classes based on a symbolic algorithm called quantifier elimination, combined with numerical computation, are proposed. The total efficiency of the design process is improved by reducing the number of numerical yield-rate evaluations. read on A Symbolic-Numeric Approach to Multi-Objective Optimization

  • Multi-objective optimization for antenna design

    Multi-objective optimization for antenna design

    M. Poian, S. Poles, F. Bernasconi, E. Leroux, W. Steffé, M. Zolesi

Using modeFRONTIER, the antenna engineer who is usually simulating with CST MWS Transient or Frequency domain solvers, can obtain an enhanced benefit : he can now proceed from analysis to efficient optimization and then synthesis. The problem consisted of the optimization of a seven element antenna array to improve the radiating performance. read on Multi-objective optimization for antenna design

  • FERMI@Elettra Undulator Frame Study

    FERMI@Elettra Undulator Frame Study

    D. La Civita, R. Bracco, B. Diviacco, G. Tomasin, D. Zangrando (Sincrotrone Trieste)

Aug 2008 The FERMI@Elettra project foresees installation of both linear (LPU) and elliptical polarization undulators (EPU). The aim of this work was to find out a mechanical structure that guarantees minimum displacement of the girders supporting the magnet arrays. read on FERMI@Elettra Undulator Frame Study
